PEORIA, Ill. — Heavy-equipment maker Caterpillar Inc. says it will offer a voluntary early-retirement package to about 2,000 of its U.S. production workers, including an unspecified number in Denver.
The move, announced Wednesday, comes on top of involuntary job cuts already in progress involving 14,100 employees and 8,000 contract workers, announced Jan. 26.
