CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C.—A Navy corpsman has been killed at a Camp Lejeune shooting range when he was hit by a bullet ricochet.
Marine officials said Wednesday that 29-year-old Petty Officer 2nd Class Andrew J. King of Black Forest, Colo., died Monday.
Base spokesman Gunnery Sgt. Brenda Varnadore said King was on duty as a medic at the base’s Stone Bay shooting range at the time. He was flown to the base hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The incident is being investigated.
King was assigned to the Headquarters Group of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force. He joined the Navy in 1996 and earned four sea deployment awards, as well as others.
