The Denver district attorney’s office had Sandra Lee Jacobson rearrested today as part of a move to have her bail increased in a fatal hit-and-run accident last month.

Jacobson is accused of sideswiping a taxi on Peña Boulevard on Jan. 28, causing it to roll over. Two passengers in the cab — Kathleen Krasniewicz, 54, and Kate McClelland, 71 — died in the crash.

The women were librarians from Riverside, Conn., who were heading to the airport to fly home after a conference in Denver.

Jacobson was charged with vehicular homicide, driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident. She had been free on a $50,000 bond.

On Saturday afternoon, Jacobson was rearrested in Arapahoe County after a neighbor reported that she was driving, despite a suspended license in a separate case. She was freed on a $50,000 bond in that case.

In his request to increase bail, Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey noted Jacobson’s lengthy reckless-driving record — including drunken driving and other traffic offenses — and that her bond in Denver prohibited her from driving.

“One of the explicit requirements of the defendant’s bond was that she not violate any city, state or federal laws,” the motion for her arrest stated.

A new bail amount could be set at Jacobson’s previously scheduled court hearing Thursday, or the court could take it up in a separate hearing Friday, said Lynn Kimbrough, Morrissey’s spokeswoman.
