Jacob John Polick of Thornton was sentenced Thursday to five years’ probation for “tampering with a consumer product” for putting a syringe in a bag of Ruffles potato chips, the U.S. attorney’s office said.
On Jan. 2, 2008, Polick contacted Frito-Lay, which manufactures Ruffles, and said he was eating chips when he found a clear, plastic syringe inside the bag.
Polick later admitted that he and a man named “Red” concocted the scheme and promised to split any money they got from Frito-Lay.
