The Colorado Division of Wildlife has scheduled meetings at nine southeast locations to gather public opinion on big-game hunting during the 2010-14 time frame. The agency is in the process of establishing a five-year season plan that will include season dates, hunting methods and license allocation.

The meetings are as follows: Tuesday, 6-9 p.m., Trinidad State’s Sullivan Center; Feb. 24, 6:30-9 p.m., Pueblo Lake State Park auditorium; March 4, 6:30-9 p.m., Lamar DOW office; March 5, 6:30-9 p.m., La Junta Holiday Inn Express; March 6, 6:30-9 p.m., Cheyenne Wells Community Building; March 6, 7-9 p.m., Colorado Springs DOW office; March 11, 7-9 p.m., Limon Community Building; March 13, 7-9 p.m., Cañon City BLM/Forest Service office; March 18, 7-9 p.m., Buena Vista Community Center.

Applause for withdrawal.

Angling and hunting groups have voiced approval of a U.S. Forest Service decision to withdraw approximately 100,000 acres from energy lease sales, a move that relieves pressure on threatened Colorado River cutthroat trout in southwest Colorado. The Feb. 11 decision predates a planned Trout Unlimited protest the following day.

Film tour schedule.

The 2009 Fly Fishing Film Tour will continue Friday with a performance at the Sheraton Opera House in Telluride. Sponsored by The Drake magazine and featuring four separate films, the tour also will be in the Durango Diamond Circle Theater on Saturday and the Grand Junction Avalon Theater on Feb. 22.
