COPENHAGEN — Boulder’s Taylor Phinney won the 1-kilometer time trial on Saturday for his second gold at cycling’s Track World Cup Finals, and four-time Olympic champion Chris Hoy of Britain was unhurt after a high-speed crash in the keirin final.
Phinney, the 18-year-old son of 1984 Olympic medalists Connie Carpenter-Phinney and Davis Phinney, edged Michael D’Almeida of France in the final. He opened the meet with a victory in the pursuit on Friday.
Wie comes up short
KAHUKU, Hawaii — Angela Stanford spoiled Michelle Wie‘s bid for a victory in her first start as an LPGA Tour member, overcoming a three-stroke deficit to win the season-opening SBS Open by three shots.
Stanford closed with a 2-under-par 70 for a 10-under 206 while Wie had a disappointing 73, with a double bogey down the stretch.
• Dustin Johnson followed his plan by overpowering the par 5s at Poppy Hills for a 5-under 67, giving him a four-shot lead over Mike Weir (69 at Spyglass Hill) into a final round at the AT&T Pebble Beach (Calif.) National Pro-Am.
• Gil Morgan shot 7-under 65 and was tied with Tom Jenkins (67) after two rounds of the Allianz Championship in Boca Raton, Fla.
St. Onge wins World Cup aerials
MOSCOW — Winter Park’s Ryan St. Onge won his second World Cup freestyle aerials title of the season and finished second to Canada’s Steve Omischl in the overall standings.
• Shaun White of the U.S. won the halfpipe competition at the World Cup snowboard event in West Vancouver, British Columbia.
American Kelly Clark won the women’s halfpipe and teammate Hannah Teter was third.
• Shani Davis of the U.S. won the men’s 1,500-meter speedskating race at a World Cup meet in Heerenveen, Netherlands.
• American Steven Holcomb won his second World Cup bobsled race in two days, and Russian Alexsandr Zubkov won his second overall title in the season finale in Park City, Utah.
• Harri Olli of Finland had the longest jump of the day and won his first ski jumping World Cup event in Oberstdorf, Germany.
• Anssi Koivuranta of Finland won a nordic combined World Cup event in Klingenthal, Germany, and extend his lead in the standings.
Nadal earns spot in final
ROTTERDAM, Netherlands — Rafael Nadal beat Gael Monfils 6-4, 6-4, setting up a final against Andy Murray, who defeated Mario Ancic 6-1, 6-1 in the ABN Amro.
• Radek Stepanek ousted Andy Roddick from the SAP Open in San Jose, Calif., beating the top seed and defending champion 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 in the semifinals. Stepanek will face Mardy Fish, who beat James Blake 6-3, 6-2 in the other semifinal.
• Amelie Mauresmo defeated Jelena Jankovic 6-2, 0-6, 6-1 in the Open GDF Suez semifinals in Paris to set up a meeting with Elena Dementieva, who advanced after top-ranked Serena Williams withdrew with a knee injury.
