So Alex Rodriguez is just the latest name to surface in the continued disgrace that is major-league baseball. Big deal. Was there any accountability when someone like Rafael Palmeiro staunchly denied using performance enhancing drugs before Congress, then was later found to have tested positive for steroid use?
It’s the same old scenario: Athlete gets accused of something (using a banned substance, gambling, arranging dog fights, having an extramarital fling); athlete vehemently denies such heinous allegations; allegations are later proven to be true; athlete feigns sincere apology; the lemmings aka fans forgive and forget; and the athlete suffers no real consequences outside of a little public embarrassment.
For the kind of money A-Fraud rakes in, most of us would be willing to weather that kind of storm.
The fans may act like they’re disgusted. When opening day arrives, they’ll still be out at the parks.
