The Post Preps staff looks at Saturday’s action in high school sports:
WRESTLING REGIONALS
Class 5A
Rocky Mountain’s four individual champions were just enough Saturday as the Lobos won the Region 4 team title.
The Lobos totaled 185 points. Northglenn (180), Central (G.J.) (171) and Centaurus (169) were within shouting distance.
Rocky Mountain champions were Jeremy Schmitt (112 pounds), Tino Laureles (135), Casey Norgard (189), a defending state champion, and Greg Smith (heavyweight), who pinned three opponents in an impressive combined 1 minute, 43 seconds.
In Region 3, Chaparral cruised to the team title behind individual winners Jacob Boyd (103), Kurtis Nelson (125), Caleb McDowell (130), Brennan Reed (135), Julian Jackson (152) and Bryce Thurston (167).
The Wolverines rang up 215.5 points. Legacy (185), Lakewood (149), Fruita Monument (128.5) and Westminster (111) rounded out the top five.
Class 4A
In a rugged Region 2, Broomfield (253.5) used six winners to distance itself from Fort Lupton (192), Thompson Valley (178.5) and Northridge (167.5).
Nick Babcock (103), Courtland Hacker (112), Gabe Gomez (119), Jordan Gutierrez (135), Josiah Graham (171) and Cody McAninch (215) were the Eagles’ crowned champions.
Northridge had four winners.
Class 3A
In Region 2, Strasburg edged Brush by a half-point for the team title, 203.5-203.
Both teams did it with depth — the only individual winners for the two programs were Cody Smith (112) of Strasburg and Lucas Schoelkopf (160) of Brush.
Following in the team chase were Valley (167.50), Yuma (162) and Eaton (128).
As for Region 1, Olathe, Hotchkiss and Grand Valley led the way with three weight winners each.

Class 2A
It would be difficult to top the performance Saturday of Paonia, which won with four individual champions and placed 10 others in sending its entire lineup to this week’s state tournament at the Pepsi Center.
Preston Bonine (112), Justin Iacovetto (119), Lukas Wiggins (152) and K.C. Martin (171) took firsts for the Eagles, who rang up 231 points. Rangely (185), Hayden (152.5) and Norwood (138) were next.
Of note, Hugh Hardman (140) and Stryker Lane (215) of Norwood, favorites to win state championships, each won by pin.
ICE HOCKEY
