Clif Dimon and Susan Mol, Crested Butte locals and reigning champions of The North Face Masters of Snowboarding, put their skills to the test and came out on top once again at the second stop of TNF Masters competition on their home hill last weekend.

Dimon landed consecutive frontflips off the cliff known as “Cheeseburger Rock” in Crested Butte’s “Body Bag Glades” area to come from behind for his victory over tour leader Matt Annetts of Stowe, Vt.

In the women’s division, Mol set the highest score in her first run of the morning, slicing through the top of Body Bag and opting for bigger air and smoother landings over her traditional billy-goat style to take the top prize of $3,500. Crested Butte’s Mary Boddington was second and earned an award for the top rider age 25 or younger.

Best-selling author speaking.

Greg Mortenson, author of The New York Times’ best seller “Three Cups of Tea,” will give the keynote address Saturday night at the American Alpine Club’s annual benefit and awards dinner. After failing to reach the summit of K2 in 1993, Mortenson found fulfillment establishing schools in some of the most remote regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Layton Kor, perhaps the most accomplished and influential climber of the 1950s and 1960s, will receive the Underhill Award for lifetime achievement. The event is at the Denver West Marriott. The $200 admission, which includes a three-course dinner, supports the AAC’s international conservation efforts and the Central Asia Institute’s ongoing work building schools.
