A teenager acted in self-defense Saturday when he killed a 36-year-old intruder he discovered in the room of his 3-year-old cousin, the Denver district attorney’s office said Monday.

The boy, whose name and exact age were not disclosed, struggled with Michael Raymond Chavez, 36, before stabbing him several times.

Denver police said Chavez forced his way into the home in the 900 block of South Yates Street at about 4 a.m. Saturday.

The boy won’t be prosecuted for any crime, according to the District Attorney’s office.
