A teenager acted in self-defense Saturday when he killed a 36-year-old intruder he discovered in his 3-year-old cousin’s room, the Denver District Attorney’s office said today.
The boy, whose name and age were not disclosed, struggled with Michael Raymond Chavez, 36, before stabbing him several times.
Denver police said Chavez forced his way into the home in the 900 block of South Yates Street at about 4 a.m. Saturday.
The family living in the home did not know Chavez and his motive for being there was not clear, said police spokesman Sonny Jackson.
“What his intentions were, we can’t speculate,” Jackson said.
The boy won’t be prosecuted for any crime, according to the District Attorney’s office.
