The effects of the economic downturn hit Major League Lacrosse, which announced Thursday it is contracting from 10 teams to six, eliminating franchises in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New Jersey and Philadelphia. The league also moved the Rochester franchise to Toronto. That leaves the Denver Outlaws as the only team in the MLL west of Chicago.

Mammoth adds four to all-star squad.
Four Colorado Mammoth players were named as reserves for the National Lacrosse League All-Star Game on March 7 at the Pepsi Center. Gavin Prout will make his seventh all-star appearance, Nick Carlson will make his second, and Brian Langtry and goaltender Andrew Leyshon will be first-time all-stars.
Also, former Mammoth player and coach Gary Gait was named as a reserve on the East team. Gait’s likely appearance would be his first in Denver since coming out of a three-year retirement. Theresa Smith
Puckett eighth in Norway.
Casey Puckett of Aspen finished eighth in a World Cup skicross race in Voss, Norway, after a crash put him near the back of the field. Also, Durango’s Jason Smith finished 10th in a World Cup snowboardcross in Stoneham, Quebec.
