What’s up: The son of former Rockies fan favorite Eric Young has sped his way through the minors. The switch hitter stole 46 bases last season with Double-A Tulsa, where he hit .290. He lit up the Arizona Fall League, hitting .430 and stealing 20 bases. His resume included an inside-the-park grand slam. He played primarily in the outfield during the fall, but he’s projected as a second baseman.
What’s next: Young, 23, will likely spend the season with Triple-A Colorado Springs, though a late-season call-up is possible. His speed, switch-hitting ability and athleticism make him one of the Rockies’ top prospects. Last summer, Young dramatically altered his batting stance in an effort to get a better view of the ball coming in. He opens up his lead foot before the pitch — similar to the way Andres Galarraga used to — before moving back into the box as the pitcher goes into his windup.
