SALIDA, Colo.—Five ambulance crews from Gunnison and Chaffee counties have responded to U.S. 50 in the Monarch Pass area following reports of two separate single-vehicle crashes.

Authorities say up to eight people were inside a van that plunged off the road and went about 200 feet down an embankment. Dispatchers say all of the occupants reported being injured in the accident.

In another crash about 8 miles away on U.S. 50, a vehicle with four people inside went off the road.

There was no immediate word on injuries.

The causes of the accidents are under investigation.
