Newmont Mining Corp.’s Ghanaian unit received a permit from the government to begin mining gold at its Akyem site in the West African country.
The company “is not able to commit to a specific timeline” on when operations will start, said Adiki Ayitevie, Newmont’s regional manager for communications, in a telephone interview from Accra.
