SALIDA, Colo.—Law enforcement authorities in Chaffee County and surrounding areas are searching for a man who allegedly fired a weapon in the parking lot of Monarch Mountain ski area after a minor accident.

Chaffee County Undersheriff Keith Pinkston says the man fired one round from an apparent .45-caliber handgun into the ground Wednesday afternoon.

A witness managed to write down the suspect’s license plate number before he drove off in a red Chevy Silverado pickup truck.

Authorities used a reverse-911 system to notify area residents, but the suspect has not yet been located.
