Jim Moffett is a hero — three times over.
Moffett is the RTD bus driver who saved the lives of two passengers by pushing the women out of the way of a pickup, but who suffered mightily when that same truck knocked him all the way into an intensive-care unit.
His story inspires us. Unfortunately, it also has inspired outrage, because state police handed him a $22 jaywalking ticket.
State police rethought the ticket, and we’re pleased that they decided to drop the matter.
Moffett’s story really shines.
Jim Moffett is a hero for stepping down out of the bus and helping the two women cross Federal Boulevard on that cold and snowy night last week.
Jim Moffett is a hero because he pushed them out of the way and took the collision that would have hit them.
And when told of his jaywalking, Jim Moffett, even with a bruised brain, broken bones and internal injuries to be cranky about, shrugged off the ticket with a laugh.
“If that’s what it takes to help little old ladies across the street,” he told his son, “I’ll take a truck head on and a $22 ticket and do it again.”
We hope Jim Moffett is soon back at the wheel.
