DENVER—A court hearing is scheduled in Denver for Miguel Angel Caro-Quintero, the alleged leader of a drug trafficking gang and brother of the man convicted of the torture-slaying of a U.S. agent.
Quintero was extradited from Mexico to the U.S. this week to face charges in Colorado and Arizona. His hearing in U.S. District Court will be Tuesday.
He was indicted in Colorado in 1990 on charges including smuggling marijuana in 1,000-pound quantities in 1987. The indictment alleges the gang dealt with large amounts of cash, including one incident where $1.5 million was allegedly carried carried in seven grocery bags in Boulder.
Caro-Quintero’s brother, Rafael Caro-Quintero, is serving a 40-year sentence in Mexico for the 1985 death of DEA agent Enrique Camarena.
