DENVER—A man wanted for escape and a parole violation is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Denver.
Police say an officer tried to stop the man for speeding about 10:25 p.m. Thursday, but the suspect refused to yield. The man then lost control of his vehicle near the intersection of East 5th Avenue and Lafayette Street.
Lt. Sharon Avendaño says the suspect then raced the engine as the officer approached on foot. The officer fired several rounds into the vehicle and struck the suspect.
The man was taken to Denver Health Medical Center where he died from his injuries. His identity was withheld, but Avendaño says he was wanted for a parole violation and escape, and had a lengthy criminal record.
The officer, whose name wasn’t released, was not hurt.
