IOWA CITY, Iowa — Iowa athletics officials say freshman defensive back Shaun Prater has been suspended indefinitely after being charged with drunken driving.

According to a news release from the university, Prater was arrested Friday night in Iowa City.

The 5-11, 172-pounder from Omaha, Neb., played in all 13 games last season as a true freshman and was credited with eight tackles.

In a statement, head coach Kirk Ferentz says he’s “extremely disappointed” to learn of the incident.

Ferentz says Prater will be required to serve a number of internal obligations and will face multiple game suspensions this fall.
