ERIE — The University of Colorado and an investment group headed by former CU golfer Steve Kerr made it official Monday, saying they agreed to a 30-year licensing agreement that gives the Buffaloes’ golf teams a permanent home at the former Vista Ridge Golf Club, which has been renamed Colorado National Golf Club.
“CU is always close to my heart,” said Kerr, 55,
a Phoenix-based bank executive who recently purchased the course. “I saw this as an opportunity.”
A heated, winter practice facility is planned for the CU men’s and women’s teams, along with offices and a locker room. The CU practice facility, to be located at the west end of the practice range, will include open bays for use of the practice range and also an indoor putting area.
Part of the practice facility could be ready by next winter, Kerr said.
“This will help recruiting,” CU men’s golf coach Roy Edwards said.
For the public, Colorado National Golf Club will
remain a daily-fee course. In the future, discounts may be given to CU alumni, Kerr said.
Kerr also announced that three-time U.S. Women’s Open champion Hollis Stacy, a Denver-area resident, will teach at the course.
