DENVER—A record-high temperature of 74 degrees has been set in Denver.
The city surpassed its old record of 72 degrees, set on the same day in 1901, shortly after 3 p.m. Monday.
The National Weather Service has predicted warmer and drier conditions for the next three months.
Because of expected mild and gusty weather, the Weather Service says there will be “very high to extreme fire danger” Tuesday, not only in the foothills west of Denver but on the eastern plains.
The fire warning will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and includes the Denver metro area, Fort Collins, Fort Morgan, Deer Trail, Castle Rock, Limon, Colorado Springs, Cañon City, Pueblo and Ordway.
At 4 p.m. Monday, Colorado Springs tied its record-high temperature of 72 degrees, set on March 2, 1901.
