Getting your player ready...

One of best things about Denver is how the people who live here not only sense a need, they jump right in to give whatever help they can.

Like they do with the Girls Inc. Alliance. At a time when it would be easy to say “I have troubles of my own to worry about first,” at least half of the 200-plus who showed up at Andrisen Morton Women’s for the Membership, Margaritas & Mojitos bash were brand new to the cause.

“It’s amazing,” observed Jennifer Waters, who organized the late-afternoon event with Sheila Zinn, Angela Brohman, Heather Faircloth and Annie Brooks. “We had a great response from our continuing members and so much enthusiasm from those who want to join.”

“Our goal is to have 400 members,” said co-president Stacey Baumhauer, “and we’re right about there as we speak.”

The alliance is the outreach and fundraising arm of Girls Inc. of Metro Denver, an organization dedicated to making girls “strong, smart and bold.”

Girls Night Out is the alliance’s signature fundraiser, and co-chairs Rickie Jones and Melinda Dark were amazed as ticket sales rolled in that night. This night of food and comedy, starring TV’s Craig Ferguson, comes down Oct. 9 at the Hyatt Regency Tech Center.

This was the first time that Membership, Margaritas & Mojitos was held in a location other than a member’s home; longtime alliance member MJ Powers, a senior sales associate at Andrisen Morton Women’s, was the point person for sealing the deal.

“It’s a perfect fit,” said host Dave Morton. “When we remodeled the store, we did it with hosting events such as this in mind.”

Hacienda Colorado provided the Mexican food buffet; Applejack Wine & Spirits was the beverage host, and Newberry Bros. supplied the flowers that prettied up the party area.

Among those stopping by to pledge their support: Jenn Leuthold; Diane Kreider; Kendi McDaniel; Cindy Schulz; Jaime Weibel; Michelle Blay; Robyn Roggensack; Cissie Megyesy; Jeanne Phillips; Michelle Hanley; Pamela Adams; co-president Tami Beardsley; and Carol Bowar, the president/CEO of Girls, Inc.
