COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Three players from Wisconsin and two from Minnesota are among 10 finalists for the 2009 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award for the top Division I women’s ice hockey player.
USA Hockey announced the finalists Monday. The field will be cut to three March 10 and the winner will be announced March 21 during the women’s Frozen Four.
The finalists are: Hilary Knight, Erika Lawler and Jessie Vetter of Wisconsin; Monique Lamoureux and Gigi Marvin of Minnesota; Meghan Agosta of Mercyhurst; Rebecca Johnston of Cornell; Molly Schaus of Boston College; Sarah Vaillancourt of Harvard; and Jenn Wakefield of New Hampshire. Vaillancourt won last year.
Patty Kazmaier played for Princeton in 1981-86 and helped the Tigers win the Ivy League title her first three seasons. She died in 1990 at 28 of a rare blood disease.
