If you’re still on the fence over how you feel about uphill skiing, there’s no better place to figure it out for sure than Saturday’s Colorado Ski Mountaineering Cup race (COSMIC for short) on the lung-busting slopes of Loveland Ski Area.

First-time rando racers will want to test their aptitude for altitude in the Rec category, a two-climb race spanning some 2,000 vertical feet on expert slopes with a final descent on the Over the Rainbow trail. COSMIC veterans entering the Race, Heavy Metal or Vet categories can expect to double the climbing distance. Racing starts at 8 a.m. Race-day registration, with a $70 entry fee, takes place at the Loveland Basin base lodge from 6:30-7:30 a.m. Early registration is available Friday at Mountain Outfitters in Breckenridge.
