SAN FRANCISCO — The family of Oscar Grant III, who was slain by a San Francisco Bay Area transit police officer early on New Year’s Day, has filed a $50 million wrongful-death lawsuit in federal court in Oakland against the Bay Area Rapid Transit agency and officers involved in the shooting.
Attorney John Burris called the shooting intentional. He says Grant was unlawfully detained, arrested and deprived of medical care after he was shot in the back while facedown on a train-station platform in Oakland.
