DENVER—Energy companies are decrying upcoming training sessions about new rules for drilling, saying they won’t be allowed to ask questions.

The Colorado Oil & Gas Association said Monday that state regulators “flip-flopped” on their promise to take questions during the sessions, which start March 9.

The regulators say the presentations are too long to allow for questions. They say questions can be submitted through the Web site of the regulating agency, the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission.

David Neslin, acting director of the commission, says responses to any questions will be posted on the Web site.

The rules won’t take effect until they’re approved by the Legislature. Lawmakers are debating whether the rules are too restrictive in a recession.
