Officials of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1001 said Monday they and their counterparts in RTD management have reach an impasse in efforts to negotiate a new labor contract and unresolved issues will be submitted to binding arbitration.

Last week, the Colorado Department of Labor & Employment issued a ruling that prevents about 1,900 Local 1001 members from striking the Regional Transportation District. The ruling instead mandates arbitration of disputed contract items.

The old contract between the parties expired on Saturday. Arbitration will begin on March 27, the union said.
