Colorado senior Jenny Barringer was voted the Big 12 Conference indoor track and field athlete of the year after she ran the mile in 4 minutes, 25.91 seconds Saturday to win the league indoor title. It is the best indoor mark in the world this year. She placed ninth last summer in the Beijing Olympic Games in the steeplechase.
DU forward is Sun Belt’s top freshman.
University of Denver forward Kaetlyn Murdoch was named the Sun Belt Conference freshman of the year after a vote of the league’s 13 coaches and a 13-member media panel. Murdoch averaged 9.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots this season, helping the Pioneers to a No. 3 seed in the Sun Belt Tournament.
Metro State senior named RMAC player of year.
Metro State senior forward Jesse Wagstaff was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men’s basketball player of the year, leading the list of five first-team players after a vote of the league’s coaches. Nebraska-Kearney’s Jade Meads, a senior guard, was named the women’s player of the year.
Air Force Academy senior earns lacrosse honor.
Air Force senior attackman K.J. Landgraf earned Great Western Lacrosse League player-of-the-week honors. He scored a career-high six goals in a 15-5 victory over Sacred Heart on Sunday in the Denver Pioneer Face-Off Classic.
