DENVER—Denver hit a record high temperature for the second time this week.

The National Weather Service says the high was 76 degrees Wednesday, topping the high of 74 degrees on the same date in 1872, when temperature records in Denver were first kept.

On Monday, the high was 74 degrees, surpassing the previous record for that date of 72 degrees set in 1901.

Alamosa, Colorado Springs, Grand Junction, Pueblo and Yuma also set temperature records Wednesday.

Warm temperatures, low relative humidities and predicted gusts of up to 50 mph prompted forecasters to issue a red flag warning, with the potential for extreme, rapidly spreading wildfires, for much of eastern Colorado.
