CENTENNIAL — Three of four snakes stolen in a pair of pet-store burglaries were recovered by police Wednesday.
Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said officers recovered the snakes at a suspect’s Centennial home early Wednesday. The man is in custody on unrelated charges, police said.
Robinson said authorities think three of the snakes were stolen from a Centennial PetSmart late last week when two suspects were caught on a surveillance camera. One snake was found dead in the parking lot. Police are still searching for the second suspect.
The fourth snake, an albino, was taken from Scales and Tails in Englewood early Wednesday after the store’s window was smashed with a rock, just like Saturday’s burglary.
Deputies had tracked license-plate information on a car seen leaving after the robbery. The albino snake was found in front of the passenger seat.
Arapahoe County deputies then searched the house and found two ball pythons identified as the two taken from PetSmart. All three snakes have been returned to the stores. Anthony Bowe, The Denver Post
