A convicted terrorist who served 15 years at the Supermax federal prison in Florence has been deported via Denver International Airport to Sudan.

Khalid Dahham al-Jawary, 61, was escorted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to Khartoum, where he arrived Tuesday.

Al-Jawary, a native of the Palestinian territories who possesses dual citizenship in Iraq and Jordan, tried to blow up three buildings in 1973.

He entered the country on a visa obtained using a fraudulent Iraqi passport. Soon afterward, he planted car bombs at Israel Discount Bank, the Israeli Bank and Trust Co. and El Al Airlines cargo facility at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.

The bombs failed to detonate.

Al-Jawary fled the U.S. before authorities discovered the car bombs.

He evaded prosecution for nearly two decades until he was detained in 1991 by Italian authorities. He was returned to the U.S. and convicted on three counts of attempting to destroy property with an explosive device.
