Intrepid Potash, the largest producer of potassium fertilizer in the U.S., said fourth-quarter profit climbed almost fivefold as higher potash prices offset lower output.
Net income rose to $22.7 million, or 30 cents a share, from $4.69 million, or 6 cents, on a pro forma basis a year earlier, Denver-based Intrepid said Thursday in a statement. Per- share profit topped the 29- cent average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Bloomberg.
