Aurora police are investigating a scuffle between a student and the principal at North Middle School on Wednesday.
“There was an incident involving a student and a principal, and we have reported that to police,” Aurora School District spokeswoman Paula Hans said.
The principal is Gerardo de la Garza, who was at school today, Hans said. She referred further questions to police. She said she could not comment further because the incident is still being investigated and involves a juvenile with privacy rights.
Aurora police Detective Bob Friel said that, at this point, the student is the focus of the investigation, potentially facing trespassing, and assault and battery charges.
“There’s still a lot of work to do in this case; there’s still witnesses we’re talking to, and we haven’t recommended any charges to the district attorney’s office yet,” he said this afternoon.
Friel said a confrontation started in the school lunchroom and spilled outside. Both the principal and the student sustained minor injuries, Friel said.
