The number of workers in Colorado belonging to a union fell to 181,000 last year, though the number increased nationally, according to data published Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Union members accounted for 8 percent of wage and salary workers in 2008 in Colorado, compared with 8.7 percent or 191,000 in 2007. The state’s union membership rate peaked in 1990 at 10.5 percent.
Nationally membership rose by 428,000, to 16.1 million.
