Arch Coal Inc., the second-biggest U.S. coal producer, agreed to buy the Jacob Ranch mine in Wyoming from Rio Tinto PLC for $761 million and integrate it with an adjacent operation.
The mine in Wyoming’s Powder River Basin region shipped 42.1 million tons of coal used at power stations in 2008, St. Louis-based Arch said Monday in a statement.
