University of Colorado sophomore forward Brittany Spears on Monday was tabbed to the all-Big 12 Conference second team after a vote of the league’s coaches.

Spears ranked third in Big 12 scoring this season with 18.1 points per game. CU senior center Kara Richards earned honorable mention, and the Buffs’ Alyssa Fressle was on the all-rookie team.

Buffs hire volleyball assistant.

The University of Colorado hired Meg Henican as an assistant volleyball coach, reuniting her with her former boss and current Buffaloes head coach, Liz Kritza.

Henican was an assistant under Kritza at Tulane the past two years. Both are in their first seasons with CU. “There is no doubt in my mind that Colorado has the opportunity to become one of the premier volleyball programs in the country,” Henican said.

Grady pacing CU golfers.

Colorado’s Patrick Grady’s 1-over-par 145 after two rounds of the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette has him in 17th place overall. He paces a CU squad in eighth place overall in the 15-team field. The final round concludes today.

Golf course escapes brush fire.

A large brush fire that scorched a wetlands area in the Lowry neighborhood of Aurora threatened the Tom Doak-designed CommonGround Golf Course, which is set to open in May. But fire crews were able to put out the blaze before the westernmost fairways burned.
