A home in the older part of Arvada was heavily damaged by fire this morning.

The couple who lived there were not at home when the fire broke out about 10:42 a.m., but their cat perished in the flames, said Scott Pribble, spokesman for the Arvada Fire Department.

“We had flames coming out three sides of the home,” said Pribble.

The home, which is a flat-roof structure, is located at 7401 W. 60th Avenue.

Twenty-five firefighters responded to the fire. It was brought under control at 11:06 a.m.

The residents who were displaced said they will stay with friends and family.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, said Pribble.
