BOULDER — Broomfield coach Mike Croell had the best seat in the house.
His Eagles dominated in every way, shape and form against Northern League rival Fossil Ridge on Wednesday. Broomfield tossed out the adage that is it hard to beat the same team three times in a season, blasting the SaberCats 69-20 in the Class 4A semifinals at the Coors Events Center.
Broomfield (27-0), the two-time defending champion, will play Mullen for a third title Friday at 6 p.m.
“They’ve always done everything we’ve ever asked them to do,” Croell said. “They’ve already accomplished a lot. They work hard, and they deserve everything they get.”
The Eagles set the tone from the get-go, opening an 11-0 lead before Fossil Ridge coach Shannon Randles had finally seen enough and called a timeout.
Iowa State-bound senior Anna Prins, who at 6-feet-6 has an ominous presence, joined Chaundra Sewell and reserve Bre Burgesser to control both ends of the court. When Prins wasn’t blocking one of her six shots, she was altering others.
“It’s tough to get shots off, and when you do get shots off, its usually contested,” Randles said. “We just had a hard time.”
Broomfield outrebounded Fossil Ridge 55-27, including 20-5 on the offensive end. The Eagles limited the SaberCats to just 7-of-43 (16.3 percent) shooting from the field.
“We’ve seen enough of them to feel comfortable with what they were trying to do,” said Prins, who finished with a game-high 17 points and eight rebounds.
Fossil Ridge (22-5) was led by Lauren Benshoof’s nine points.
