A former Littleton couple who operated plumbing businesses in the Denver area have pleaded guilty to two counts of tax evasion for failing to pay, or only partially paying, federal employment taxes.

The couple are David Yost, 55, and his wife Paula Yost, 47, of Osage Beach, Mo.

Between 1988 and 2001, the Yosts operated plumbing businesses including Dave’s Plumbing, Dave’s Plumbing and Heating, and Payday Plumbing and Heating Services.

Investigators said that from the period of April 30, 1988, through Jan. 31, 1991, the Yosts failed to pay nearly $100,000 in federal employment taxes for Dave’s Plumbing.

From July 31, 1999 through Oct. 31, 2001, the couple also failed to pay $87,847 in federal employment tax on Dave’s Plumbing and Heating.

The government alleged that the Yosts under-reported their income for the tax year 2001 by approximately $231,132.

Tax evasion carries a penalty of not more than five years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000.

The couple is scheduled to be sentenced on July 31. Howard Pankratz: 303-954-1939 or hpankratz@denverpost.com
