Anna Prins of Broomfield High School, who leads her team against Mullen tonight for the 4A championship, was named the Gatorade Colorado girls basketball player of the year Thursday.
The 6-foot-6 senior forward averaged 14 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and three assists per game for the Eagles (27-0).
Track and field stars honored.
Adams State junior Aaron Braun (Rocky Mountain High School) was named the Division II men’s track athlete of the year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Braun is the NCAA leader in the mile (4:03.85) and second behind teammate Brian Medigovich in the 5,000 meters (13:55.40).
Colorado’s Jenny Barringer was named the USTFCCCA’s Mountain Region indoor female athlete of the year. Barringer has set school records in the mile, 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters this season.
Air Force’s Nick Frawley, who set an academy record with a pole vault of 18 feet, 1 inch, received the men’s field athlete of the year award from the coaches.
