A suit against a Garfield County medical provider brought by a man who claimed to have injured his eye while in jail has been dismissed, the county said.
William Huntley claimed “he was not properly monitored and treated after being admitted to the jail in a drunken state,” according to a news release from the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.
Huntley was jailed Jan. 31, 2006, after being arrested by Glenwood Springs police, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office said Huntley refused to cooperate while being booked and would not allow staffers with Colorado Health Care Management to obtain a blood-alcohol reading. CHCM is a contractor with the county.
On the afternoon Huntley was arrested, he claimed he had fallen and hurt his eye while in custody.
CHCM has settled the suit for an undisclosed amount, the sheriff’s office said.
The suit was dismissed Wednesday.
The settlement avoids an April federal court trial, the sheriff’s office said.
