LINCOLN, Neb.—Hastings St. Cecilia overcame an 11-point halftime deficit to beat Pierce 46-39 in the Class C1 semifinals at the boys state tournament Friday.
The defending champion Bluehawks (23-1), who won their 17th game in a row, held Pierce to 14 points in the second half. Dalton Sealy scored six of his 11 points as St. Cecilia outscored the Bluejays 18-8 in the third quarter and cut Pierce’s lead to 33-32.
St. Cecilia will play top-seeded Chadron (26-0) for the title Saturday.
Pierce (22-3), looking for its first state title since 1922, made only two 3-pointers in the last eight minutes.
Jake Hamburger scored 14 points to lead the Bluehawks. Pierce’s Tony Lauters had a game-high 15, but only 3 after halftime.
