He wasn’t a teammate, but Evan Bancroft has been a part of Caliche boys basketball history the past few years. The former Hi-Plains standout was a member of the 2008 Class 1A state championship team that knocked off the Buffaloes last year at the Air Force Academy. Two years ago, Hi-Plains defeated Caliche in the state semifinals. But last summer, Bancroft lost his life in a tragic construction accident. He was only 17. This year, to pay tribute to one of their fallen comrades, the Caliche boys have worn the initials E.B. on the left shoulder of their uniforms.
