Getting your player ready...
When Collin Papuga, a sophomore at Middle Park High School, went ice-fishing on Lake Granby last month, he had every reason to expect the same result as during those dozens of other excursions to the big reservoir south of his home in the town of Grand Lake.
“I’ve caught lots of fish through the ice since I was a little kid, but never anything really big,” he said.
What grabbed his pearl tube jig tipped with sucker meat bounced off the bottom was decidedly an upgrade. After a considerable struggle, Papuga landed a lake trout that measured 31 inches and weighed 19 pounds. He said he would keep trying for a bigger one.
