This was the second year in a row Paonia has lost in the Class 2A state basketball finals. The girls lost to Wray 46-35 on Saturday night and a year ago, the Paonia boys lost to Sedgwick County. “Finishing second is the best the girls have ever done at Paonia and our 25 wins is also a school record,” Paonia’s girls coach Scott Rienks said. “The girls don’t see those things right now because they were so focused on winning that gold ball. They will eventually realize what they accomplished.”
