Fans of Fox 31’s “Ambush Makeover” know very well how good William Whatley is at finding the va-va-voom in all of us.
Last Thursday, with help from a Giorgio Armani Cosmetic makeup artist, he took Rebecca Colvin from cute to Wow! in a matter of seconds — as she stood on a fashion runway at Saks Fifth Avenue Cherry Creek.
Colvin’s makeover was the grand finale to Spring for Life, a cocktail party and fashion show that Saks put on for Cancer League of Colorado. The event kicked off the store’s MasterCard Want It! promotion and helped spur ticket sales for CLC’s May 2 gala, Good Cause Comedy.
Diagnosed with low-grade glioma in June 2004, Colvin survived two brain surgeries (the second of which was performed 34 days after her wedding) and radiation to become a college graduate and certified paralegal who continues to enjoy playing piano, dancing and art.
CLC member Regina Serna chaired the event at Saks; June Singer Dreibholz, Frederick Dreibholz and Yvette Mount are coordinating the gala that also marks CLC’s 40th year.
President Annette Jewell pointed out that the all-volunteer organization has raised $8 million for Colorado-based cancer researchers since its start. She also noted that founding members Pat Lau, Carol Childs, Claudia Pasmus and Lori Ohlsen will serve as honorary chairmen; the late Sally Ohlsen will also be recognized. Awards will be presented to longtime supporters Dave Weisberg, Dr. David Raben, Mario Marchello and Dealin’ Doug Moreland. Lukas Liquors and Continental Divine Catering supplied refreshments for the party at Saks where guests included Edie Marks with daughters Elise and Lori; president-elect Martha Jentz; Cindy Hansen, incoming chairwoman of CLC’s corporate board; Jan Anderson; Sandy Wolf Yearick; Joyce Wilson; Carole Cottrell; Gayle Novak; Lyn Schaffer; Antonette Smith; Arlene Mohler Johnson; Fatima Dias; Mary Byron; and store manager Kay Cline. It’s all good.
A celebrity panel, chosen by Fired Up for Kids, will decide which contenders will grace the pages of the 2010 Firefighters Calendar at a judging party and auction set for March 27 at EXDO Events Center. It’s open to the public, starting with a $100- per-ticket VIP cocktail reception at 6 p.m. Other tickets, available through TicketsWest, are $55 and $50, with proceeds going to the Children’s Hospital burn unit. . . . Second Home in the JW Marriott Cherry Creek, Jordan’s Bistro and the Hyatt Regency Convention Center have added Kelli Kindel’s Rum Cakes by Kelli to their dessert menus. . . . Morris and Helen Ginsburg’s daughter, Marla, has morphed from TV producer to clothing designer and her Boomba-Couture collection has been picked up by 19 Nordstrom locations; the pieces designed for “women of any age, shape and size” should be in the Cherry Creek store any day now.
