Ski racing legends join forces with legendary blues man Taj Mahal for the 27th anniversary of the American Ski Classic in Vail from Thursday-Saturday.

The 2009 edition kick offs at 4 p.m. Thursday at Vail Mountain’s Golden Peak with the Legends giant slalom, a head-to-head competition featuring former Olympic, World Cup and world championship racing champions including Daron Rahlves, Doug Lewis, Franz Klammer and Vail locals Chad Fleischer and Cindy Nelson. A free performance by Taj Mahal will follow at 6 p.m.

The ski legends move into the role of team captains for the Ford Cup celebrity team competition Friday and Saturday. Nelson will be inducted into the International Ski Hall of Fame at the Legends banquet Saturday night.
