COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A motorcyclist is dead and his passenger is hospitalized after the operator lost control while allegedly fleeing from Colorado State Patrol troopers.
Colorado Springs police Sgt. Rich Smith says a State Patrol DUI enforcement vehicle was trying to pull over 41-year-old William Lee Campbell late Monday when Campbell refused to stop and led troopers on a pursuit at speeds reaching 95 mph.
Troopers soon called off the pursuit, but later spotted the motorcycle again. The bike then hit a curb, throwing Campbell and a female passenger off the motorcycle.
Campbell died at a Colorado Springs hospital. Smith says the passenger, 41-year-old Maria Renee Campbell, was injured but is expected to survive.
The State Patrol says neither victim wore a helmet.
