PAPILLION, Neb.—Sarpy County officials have approved a deal with the Omaha Royals that paves the way for the county to build a 6,000-seat stadium for the minor league baseball team.

The Class AAA Royals, the top affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, have played at Omaha’s Rosenblatt Stadium since 1969. Talks began with Sarpy County in recent months after negotiations to move to a new downtown Omaha stadium failed.

Sarpy County will own the stadium and lease it to the Royals for 25 years. The agreement also says the project can’t cost more than $26 million. The team’s contributions and tax money will pay for it.

Officials haven’t selected a site for the new stadium.
